Happy #WorldDownSyndromeDay. It falls on 3/21, because people with Down syndrome have three copies of the twenty-first chromosome. This is the best Down syndrome PSA ever made and I want you to watch and share it. #WDSD2025

I was so nervous about that movie because of who made it (I mean considering it was one of the same guys that made "Dumb and Dumber" I was expecting to hate it). But I was actually very impressed. I really liked how it ended to.
A little horrifying that he would deceive his loving mom, but also an entertaining take. My first volunteering role was at a school for 3/21 kids. It was super gratifying to hang with them.
My niece is a special needs person and has several downs friends. I love listening in on their conversations. They are normal people who want normalcy in their lives. The box most people put them in, is restraining.
That mom fought dragons to help her son to be independent, it’s hard to just “let them be” in this harsh world. Infantilizing is another word for protecting sometimes. Not me over here defending that mom 🤣🫶❤️🩹
1) non-speaking. So many PSAs center, for obvious reasons, people with Down syndrome with intelligible verbal speech. But we can't tell the whole story only with the most typically able.
2) Teenagers doing teenager things, including miscreance. Naughty children. Like teens do.
3) The kid shows considerable autonomy and creativity while defying his parents and playing truant. I am not in favor of kids playing truant. But as a message that people with Down syndrome are people, in all ways, I dig it.
Worked with one young woman who I placed in a grocery store bakery department. She would sneak off when feeling impish and grab the store PA mic and "announce" things store wide in the voice of Mr. Krab from Spongebob.
That’s one of the things I love most about it. Yeah technically it’s “bad behavior” but it’s also such great kids’ stuff. Skipping school to enjoy being in a city on a beautiful day, hanging out and vibing to music with friends, I WANT THAT FOR ALL KIDS
Speaking of swearing, the same people (Coordown), made this sweet PSA about assumptions, with a young woman talking about drinking, independence, swearing, and even sex.

Being human we all are human.
Thank you for showing them.
The eternal ‘suffering’ and ‘they can't do it anyway’ gets on my nerves so much.
They may not have special needs... but I do... I NEED a cat massage. Lol
