I like ThinkPads, but my most recent laptop is a FrameWork. It has a really nice keyboard (as laptop keyboards go), physical switches for camera and mic, and is almost as upgradeable as a desktop, so with luck I'll never need to buy a whole new laptop again. It was expensive, but hopefully worth it.

I've been using Linux for more than a decade. I started with Gentoo but I've been using Ubuntu for several years. I did most of my professional programming on various releases of Windows, both desktop and server. Linux is a solid system and its 100% open source. Gotta love it.

Linux reminded me of my Unix days so it wasn’t difficult at all for me to go Linux on everything. I keep the one windows system for testing only.

The best way to get a new laptop is buying a used Thinkpad for $200 off eBay and slap a Linux distro on it. It would out last a new laptop and run way more smoothly for years to come.
