When politicians and media foghorns demand that we don’t talk about Brexit, I always remember these wise words from Martin Samuel (Times journalist) and pledge to honour them.

Problem is, we won't get out of it until ...
1. Leading politicians start speaking the truth about the Brexit damage.
2. Activists stop making excuses for the politicians who lie or ignore that truth.
I liked ‘plebicide’, coined by a letter writer to the Economist to describe Brexit.
Now defined in Collins Dictionary as meaning ‘the self-inflicted ruin of a nation's prospects or interests via a reckless act of democracy’.
love this💗 I remember my teens moaning that i was going on about brexit so much and going on the marches. Now in their early 20s they’re so livid at brexit and the loss of FOM, that they’re proud of my stance
From the endless MP lies; to FBruce on BBCqt eyerolling in 2017 “we aren’t going to talk about Brexit” to Kwarteng today saying it won’t be revisited…
the conspiracy to not discuss/acknowledge the biggest act of national self harm will be 1 day a lesson in state failure. It should be already.
A nation undone by the snake oil of a bunch of liars, xenophobes & chancers who sail off now to speak at right wing thinktank conferences peddling climate change denialism & the great replacement theory.. in a bid to further poison the world & line their pockets.
Yes, but with two caveats. One, Twitter was full of idiots who loved talking Brexit up as a brilliant thing; Bluesky largely has been people who dislike it but recognise for now there's nothing that can be done. And the endless Brexit stress makes people *ill*.
Over here is not the same as Twitter. We can preach to the converted but it becomes boring and frustrating. The Labour government clearly knew it couldn't ditch Leavers (years ago I wanted them to, but that Reform vote share was horrifying) but also that it knows Brexit can't work, just won't say.
They ARE making the right noises and moves to slowly and delicately and quietly patch in things we lost again, and repair damage. But they've got five years and we're barely two months in. I think we have to hide our time for a bit.
For months and months, the word was a no-go area on the BBC, petrified it would destabilise a government. Lies upon lies were never challenged by journalists and presenters.

1. Join single market
2. New referendum
3. Just join back
4. Sequence through these
5. Something else? Something better?

It’s handy!!
Look at Switzerland.
But you do need to talk about it.
And some are THAT stupid they still believe in it.

#Brexit was harakiri. How so many fell on that sword is incomprehensible. The country's biggest show of racism and bigotry, that has ruined it.
"Can we talk about returning to the #EU?"
We need to FIGHT for it, and with all our might!
At least 30% further on than where we are.
And now that we have GTTO, it's time to do that even more.
It's not a static disaster either. It's still getting worse, and it will keep on getting worse
Re-joining the SM/CU and restoring FOM would be a great help.
