It's often been said but never listened to that UK & USA are two countries separated by a common language.

For anyone who has ever worked for Americans, lived in America, seriously visited the place or even had an American partner, one may understand better.

UK has more in common with Europe.

I worked in a company that imported an American director, it was his first role outside of America.

The difference in an employer's expectations of an employee's responsibilities compared to previous bosses (German, Swedish, Italian, British, French) was crazy.

Very different cultures.

The UK is definitely not better, we are one (reform) step from the same path. I've had to be in the US quite a lot recently & it's interesting. In the north east cities there are plenty of people aghast, but the southern states especially, they are getting what they voted for. /1

The US is now so fractured as a country / society I don't know how it pulls back together. I can see that being replicated here if we are not careful. For me the solution lies in Europe, we must win back trust, but the ghost of Brexit is haunting Starmer. He has to exorcise it by taking it on.

I wouldn't get too complacent about the UK being "better" than the US - I think our population is just as malleable when lied to, as the American population.
And our Parliament was unable to prevent Brexit, in spite of overwhelming evidence that it would be bad for the country.
