I didn’t leave twitter to avoid being exposed to ideas I don’t like, I left it to avoid the people who have those ideas. They’re all stupid, disgusting hogs!

Whenever they start with the "echo chamber" shit the only thing I hear is "my mom says you HAVE to play with me!"
No. We have no obligation to consider "both" sides when one side doesn't understand why they're being compared to nazis. If they don't see it now, there's nothing to talk about...
I humbly disagree. One can consider a contrasting viewpoint without agreeing with it. There's a difference between "both sides-ing" an argument, false dichotomy, and considering an idea one doesn't agree with, regardless of how misinformed and wrong it may be or how uncomfortable it makes you feel.
If the contrasting viewpoint is "trans people are evil" or "women shouldn't be allowed to vote" or "I should be allowed to use slurs" then no I'm not gonna waste brainpower even thinking about it. And the bigger thing is... I don't wanna hang out with assholes. So I don't. Same as in real life...
Agreed.
What I had in mind was the human tendency to dismiss without consideration those opinions that don't comport to one's worldview. But your point it well taken and a troubling reminder why we've become so polarized.
It's when the disagreement is sharing information and the response is, "Well, I don't know that" which is a wall. When I share sources, they just say fake news because it's not faux. Then onto how they can't believe Biden won in 2020 because he was hiding in his basement the whole time
Gotcha. I would be willing to consider contrasting viewpoints that are not racist, homophobic, misogynist, or utterly insane. I don't know of much common ground
If you've determined a viewpoint to be racist, homophobic, misogynistic, or utterly insane, then you've successfully considered it and surely have the right to dismiss it.
If it makes you feel better, chances are a sizable number of those abhorrent "people" on twitter were bots. Maybe a third or more accounts on Twitter are illegitimate
I left Twitter because of the trolls, porn bots, blue-check MAGA morons, and algorithms. I was a regular Twitter/X user for more 10 years yet never got past a few thousand followers.
I left Twitter before X, but I decided to go back. On Bluesky for community, but we are talking to ourselves. I don't have to interact, or read comments there. I'm just there to post evidence on they are being hurt. Thinking about doing the same on Truth Social. Just need to hold my nose.
Exactly. Excellent handle BTW. It takes energy to process contrasting views, especially illogical, misinformed false ones. Its natural to ignore what others' have to say if what they say usually turns out to be BS or they've proven themselves bad faith actors. I applaud your sense of civic duty.
