Owing to her social status, she was offered the alternative of being bound over however she refused the offer and pleaded guilty to the charges.

Just to make it clear she shouted in court “My disorderly behaviour of throwing a stone with violence in a public space was deliberate and intentional”.

When in prison she went on hunger strike with her fellow working class suffragettes, and was force fed via a tube.
Being posh, she had nicer digs and was let out a little earlier than the rest.

On return, she resumed her militant activity- later disguising herself as a working class woman “Jane Wharton” to prove the injustices of force-feeding against women of lower social status and in 1910 she was force fed in Walton Gaol, Liverpool.
