I actually concur with this for sorting purposes. I use this date format as a naming convention quite a lot.
I think us Americans typically use MMDDYY because for some reason we still think we're writing it all out like we're Ben Franklin or something.

agree because you gain more information with each field. if you know the date was in 2022, you're already down to 365 possible days, max.
if instead you know it's in April, or on the 16th of some month, or even on April 16th, that's still a potentially infinite number of possible dates.

i still do MM/DD/YY if i'm writing it out but YYMMDD is what i use for files and folders and stuff

YYYY/MM/DD is the only format that makes search/sort easy. Everything else sucks.

YYYYYMMDD would be better - it's trivially sortable and we don't have to rewrite all our code in 8000 years.
