Oh wow they look so enjoyable all lined up like this in different colours! My schools have the heavy monitors as well, but all were the utilitarian grey variety
Typing was the most worthwhile class I took in high school by far. Long after all the other knowledge leaked out of my brain, that skill keeps paying off.
I spent 30 years coding application programs on a mainframe and my high school typing class was invaluable. Though it was over a decade later it still really helped.
Definitely true for me too! And, it was really fun actually, win-win! Kids should continue to have this especially as many households may not have keyboards at home (what with phones, tablets, etc)
I went to a military school that had just gotten a bunch of these donated for the rec-room, but ZERO additional software and no network hookups, not even phone lines for dial-up. They sat unused the 3 years I was there, other than the occasional attempt to make it say something naughty.
in 2005 I was driving home from work and saw a blueberry iMac on the street next to someone's garbage cans. I poured buckets the day before, but I stopped and brought the Mac home anyway. I let it dry out for a week, plugged it in and hit the button. BRRRRRING. Started right up.
sadly, my parents bought a white one right when the Luxo/ pixar pivoting ones came out, and I had to explain that they had bought the least cool old school iMac, when they could have waited a month for the new cool iMac
Oh dear heavens to silicone, my old nemesis, the deadly iMac. When they were first introduced, Apple thought it was a neat idea to sell them in Costco and even better to bundle them with Earthlink internet service.
I was one of those unfortunate salespersons at Earthlink who took calls from those who didn't know the difference between an iMac and a toaster. Those conversations still haunt me.
Is this an old picture, or just a picture of working, but old, equipment? I sure loved and wanted one of those back in the day but never had the bucks.
When I was 8 or 9 I went to the computer store every day just to look at these things in different colors. It was at least a 40 minute walk with my tiny legs.
I had the graphite version of this and it was the first computer I modified. I put 2 black light tubes inside the bottom of the case. It had a cool purple glow to it.
I had this exact color and model. Loved it! But had to reset it more and more frequently w/a paper clip inserted into the back - what a pain! I considered converting it into a fish bowl - there were instructions on how to do that on the internet - but gave it to a computer guy / collector instead.
I networked one of these with a community center office right when they were released. It was interesting working with a variety of Macs, I had an SE in my office tied in with the rest easy peasy.
I was working at an Apple Service Provider as a tech when the Bondi Blue came out and these. We did a lot of repairs for them. Not that they were bad, just so popular we had many in for service for the usual things. The 6GB drives were know to fail often.
I'v got one of these, too. But the speakers are broken. The foam around the membrane has dissolved with age. not sure how to replace / fix this issue. There were suggestion of using speaker modules / drivers of similar size as a replacement
I feel like the folks who did crystal cases on electronics missed a great opportunity to put useless gears and belt drives and Rube Goldberg devices and not answer any questions on whether or not they did anything.
One of my HS teachers had a bunch of these in his class. He was a super nice guy. So one of the football players who TA'd for him changed all the backgrounds to Borat in that neon thong. Cuz he's the nice teacher he just laughed and said, "now go and change those all back!" No punishment. #nostalgia

They really sucked. Especially the round mouse was just crazy.
Bought a PC and did all work from home instead. Still working from my pc and will NEVER use a Mac.

The iMac G3, originally released as the #iMac in 1998
So unlike the boring harsh black sharply rectangular masculine forms
