I think it's quite normal and to be expected in new and small communities that the subject is mostly about the community (and tech) itself. My experience on Mastodon is quite the same as with Nostr; many of the content is about the fediverse.
More interesting is to see who is behind the content.

I don't know how anyone can really compare any of the sites ... experience.

I am absolutely certain that my experience on Twitter (as an example) is vastly different than yours, or some Maga, or Black Twitter, or Russian, etc etc etc.

It is more about who you connect to than the domain name.

... yes, sometimes the discussion on Bluesky is also about Bluesky. But much more of it is people just talking. I don't see that nearly as much on nostr/Farcaster (though I also spend less time there, so maybe it's on me).

I suppose the difference may be that on nostr (I've never used farcaster) there is more of a tinkering community messing about building. Your observation seems about right tho.
