Bluesky is building such that if future Bluesky sucks or fails, you can keep going without them.
This point is so important and completely ignored by the doomers insisting enshittification is inevitable.

The network should outlast the company

The main bsky server is too concentrated to enable survival. Similarly, Google Wave died with the main server.
but it'd be great to have some clearer explanations of what the fail-safes are.

I do believe shittification will happen. Everything Dumpty has touched so far has died in one way or another.
I’ll try to swear less, for my part? Try. It ain’t easy. Former military!
thanks but im gonna go with your friend cory and not the guy who has a relationship with the vc funded company.
I know about @proto.
Yes, in theory everypony could start using it. But in practice, most of Bluesky is on here because federation was too confusing for them. Will they suddenly be OK with juggling *apps*?
Is that something that Bluesky's users are willing to deal with?
Similarly inaccessible is going to be "Bluesky and NewBlueSky have different lexicons, and that's why only half of your posts you make on NewBlueSky are visible on Bluesky."
The response will be, "ah fuck it, I'll use something simpler."
But I'm supposed to believe that users won't be put off when Bluesky does it?
That's not going to be a global network then.
The answer can't both be "users don't want to think about relays" and "users will use multiple relays."
But if Bluesky goes to shit.. are users going to do that? Will they do that even if it means having to care about relays and lexicons?
I don't think so.
Right now users have a free home on Bluesky's infra. Should we believe that alternatives the entire userbase can use will pop up out of nowhere? How much work is required for each user to move their data?

And or to establish local NGOs that resiliently fund the maintenance each their local account servers.

But at the same time, VC funders demand unsustainable returns. Stable and sustainable isn't what they're going for. So something has to give.
