This is awful. In the UK we had someone die in a hospital cafe and no one noticed they are dead for 3 hours but for days is shocking.

Love the indirect blaming WFH - if the offices were full of people we would be more likely to notice when someone died

If companies didn't insist on cutting their workforces to beyond the bone, there would have been more people there.

It's a very serious question: if she's paid by the hour, and she dropped dead at work without ever clocking out, how do they count her hours?

Reminds me of a show. A myth debunking show. Not so much a myth anymore.

Is the myth/debunking that the harm was caused by capitalism all along?

It's been a long time since I've seen the episode on television, but I recall the myth had something to do with paychecks.
Safe to say it's likely!

If you enjoy podcasts and myth debunking you’d definitely enjoy “You’re Wrong About” with Sarah Marshall

Why does it feel that there's a Japanese word that describes this awful circumstance? Something that suggests a quiet resignation to the grayscale slow death that is capitalism.

Her manager was relieved because now they don't have to have the awkward "we're letting you go" conversation during the next round of layoffs.
