Parliament is mostly controlled by the executive. A small group elected by a tiny proportion of the electorate & made ministers.

I'd suggest that while ECHR-scepticism has ramped up post-Brexit, it always formed a second 'trunk' rising from the same ‘root’. /2

It was eventually agreed that states could decide themselves whether to give this right to their citizens and indeed whether or not to accept the new European Court’s jurisdiction. /6
It finally came into force in 1953. /7
