I don’t think it’s just that though. Waiting times are through the roof for any number of conditions. I’ve been giving serious thought to just quitting my current job due to being on a waiting list that is apparently a year long for e.g.
The NHS was running on fumes before the pandemic. Anything not immediately life threatening was deprioritised and now acute conditions have become chronic for many people
I know it’s only anecdote, but I work in an area of high social deprivation. I regularly see people who are working age, but not working. With the issues they have, almost none of them are suitable for any kind of work. I don’t think any policy would make any difference for most.
