High school government and civics classes need to start students on their duty and path to their voter registration. It’s part of social studies. I bet a third of American voters could not pass a citizenship test. I teach the test and I’m not sure I could pass it.

As a Canadian, I don't quite understand this. I have a passport, a Nexus/Global traveler card, birth certificate and a SIN card. Are these not easily available to Americans? Are they expensive? Is it difficult to get a new card once married? I also have provincial and federal accounts for taxes etc.

Not many people have Passports. Getting a certified copy of birth certificate can take time and $$. Adopted people good luck etc etc. This Save Act is discriminatory. Elderly, minority, immigrants, Native Americans. Too many variables. GOP wants to cut out voters who are not MAGA.

I hate to disagree but we should have to show citizenship to REGISTER (not to vote) because only American citizens are allowed to vote. Why would 1 in 10 people not be able to show either a birth certificate or a document which previously required a birth certificate?(passport or starred DL)

The Save Act makes no sense. The federal Real ID law went into effect in 2008. When I renewed my FL DL, I had to show a birth cert, marriage cert and SS card to prove I was a US citizen. Haven't I already proven my citizenship by complying w/the Real ID law? It's redundant & a way to block voting. 😖

I don't understand why this is ridiculous. A passport is a very important travel document that gives one access to countries around the world. For that privilege, countries expect the issuer to have done the due diligence prior to issuance.

I ordered my birth certificate online from the county seat where I was born. They will stamp the replacement certificate and that is acceptable. Mine was $36, which beats hell out of having to drive hundreds of miles.
