I don't think it will be fixed. I'm on it because there's still a lot of people who use it and I think my content can reach some of them. If the ship keeps sinking and X keeps shedding users, I'll happily stop posting over there.

Yes, I get a decent amount of engagement on X. I'm also limited on this site by not being able to post videos that are over a minute. Hopefully that changes soon.

We stay on X to provide important public service information to disabled and clinically vulnerable people who may lack the means to change platform. We can't fix it, and staying for this purpose is the least worst option.

Hi I’ve heard this lacking the means to change platform but why? They got set up ok so what’s the actual issue? Am currently struggling to see it, especially when migration tools exist. It’s perplexing to see especially as more revelations as to Musk’s nature unfold and they’re already vulnerable:

Many disabled people have only social media to connect them to others. They've invested their very scarce emotional and physical resources into their existing networks, and it's a really big deal for them to dump one network and start another.

Our social media team, who are nearly all disabled volunteers themselves, have found their mental health has improved since we stopped monitoring X. It's a toxic platform, and we wholly reject the grotesque extremism of its owner.

Leave it. It’s not Twitter anymore and most (hopefully all) of such people wouldn’t even consider signing up for X if it was a brand new thing instead of the gutted corpse of a once great site. Sure it had its problems, but none of them were a megalomaniac nazi at the helm. How can they even stay 🤮

I don't think X is fixable. I think the future lies in open-source, community based platforms, lile Mastodon.

Mastodon is a part of a bigger idea called "fediverse" which includes several different open-source platforma tht communicate with eachother.

Ok, but that article you refer to is older and some things have changed since then. I do agree though that tje "de-centralized" part does not attract too many people. But I don't find Mastodon too complicated and a lot more user friendly now than 2 years ago.

Anyone keeping a Twitter, Meta, Amazon, TikTok account are a part of the problem.
I'm guilty myself, I intend to keep WhatsApp. I also use Amazon shopping, but it is no longer my go to.

What would be absolutely hilarious would be having ByteDance buy up the $13B debt and foreclose, so that TikTok and X are effectively owned by the same company. Apparently X is only worth about $13B now compared to the $44B purchase price. Musk only used $15B of his own money to buy it.

That's interesting. Before Musk bought it, I would have happily bought the Twitter shares, but not now.

Many people that I knew on Twitter came over to Bluesky, so it's fine - I was never a sucker for "engagement". It feels good here, like Twitter at the beginning.

That's all the big corporate bank money they loaned to Musk to complete the purchase of X, it sounds like they are not confident that the loan will be paid back in any reasonable time frame. It was billions of $.
