Everyone’s saying this is a sign that Trump’s in Putin’s pocket, but we also need to consider the possibility that this is the byproduct of “the liberals support Ukraine so we have to oppose it”. So much of what conservatives advocate for is just oppositional defiance, why should this be different?

Finland and Sweden joined as a consequence of the invasion. So all those who use NATO as the justification for Russia are engaging in backwards logic.
But both things can be true. IMO Trump HAS been groomed over the years and is deeply influenced by Putin, but the other factor contributes to mainstreaming his view in the GOP.
