I want to know who these freaks are who are checking out other people in the bathroom. Buddy, I’m going toilet, so no eye contact ok. Right wing assholes just do not get how freaking WEIRD they are! Don’t talk to me, avoid eye contact and dude, unless you got $100 you ain’t “inspecting” nothing!
Ha ha, the fundamental church in NZ fucked with Drag Story Time, which got me finally to hang my heavy bag back up. I’m actively looking to use my white privilege and beat these Nazis. As a 50yr old white guy with a home and job… i couldn’t possibly get in trouble! Seems rude not to.
I think this will happen in most places when they realise that it costs less to buy two new door signs than it does to employ toilet police and build new facilities.
Toilets at loads of places are going down this route and have been for a while. Individual toilets, useable by anybody, each with a lockable door. Makes so much more sense than arbitrarily gendering identical facilities.
Less clean up too. A proper toilet has alil bit of protection from that horror that can be a walmart bathroom XD dont ask i only worked their for a year and had seen shit in places and on things that simply was terroristic.
I agree with this. Why are we so bent on separate bathrooms. If Women restroom lines are too long, I go in the men's room. I just have to pee. BTW, the restrooms at my house are gender neutral too.
Every house you have ever lived in, every hotel room you've ever slept in, every apartment you've ever rented, and every airplane you've ever flown on, had a gender-neutral bathroom.
We have gender-segregated bathrooms for the exact same reason Saudi Arabia has gender-segregated restaurants.
Many workplaces and some cafes in Australia were like this anyway, which is funny because lack of a F bathroom used to be used as an excuse not to hire women in trades and engineering.
The “universal toilet” as noted in the regulation is a perfectly functional loo, especially for smaller venues with fewer loos or venues seeking better privacy or (as by necessity they are larger than stalls) disabled accessibility. Many venues have them.
As another reply notes, Labour could also repeal this regulation to allow ‘mixed’ gender neutral loos again with stalls, as was the case for a long time;- as this pub is doing presumably in ignorance of silly regulations nobody should care to enforce. Tories passed it as nonsense culture war chaff.
Let's hope they've backed themselves into a corner by saying trans people have to use a third space. Of course they will probably just go with accessible spaces and ignore gender neutral given their history.
I think you underestimate just how fanatical is the faction that has taken over Labour.
The only way out of this is if the Labour Together / Blue Labour are ejected from the party and with their level of control and ruthlessness that seems unlikely.
I don't know. I was told she probably had a mental illness. An incident report had to be made, as a couple of patients had complained. One needed to use the bathroom for a specimen straight after, and was forced to go home and come back with it which they didn't want to do. It affected everyone
I misinterpreted "Supreme Court" as referring to ours when I was scrolling this morning. I did not know that the UK referred to their highest court as "Supreme".
I am still interested in knowing the case and decision that led to this net-positive outcome.
Wonder how quickly things will change if a bunch of girls enter the toilets where a man is peeing at a urinal and look at his manhood and giggle at its (lack of) size. 😂
Yes! This reminds me of a TedTalks video about design and how it's used for the privileged versus the masses.
There are more inclusive and welcoming ways to create bathroom spaces.
I'm so used to seeing unisex all inclusive stalls in public places that it baffles me this is still am "issue" for so many. But then again I don't live in 'Murica
I've never understood small businesses that have two entirely self-contained toilets (including basin and hand dryer) and designate one as Men and one as Women – making them both available to anyone is just the sensible choice.
Oh and also what the other poster said. Men do consistently piss all over the seat because touching the seat to move it out of the way is gay or something (probably).
Having cleaned both mens and women's locker rooms in my time as a lifeguard at a public pool, I can positively say the women's locker room gets just as gross as the men's does - and just as regularly.
yes, I've seen places who had all gender neutral toilets changing them due to complaints - usually a few local activists. The Tory regulation change codified this and should be changed to allow businesses to have all gender neutral toilets if they want to.
And people are so weird about using the “wrong” one. I’ve been in line a couple of times for a single occupancy women’s bathroom right next to a men’s and have gotten surprised (or one time angry) looks when I ask if the men’s is open.
I went to a conference where it was apparently decided the gender neutral stalls were primarily for men, and the line looked aghast at a woman joining instead of waiting in the much longer women only bathroom line.
Nice! I was under impression that retail was required to have a men's and a women's toilet in the UK. Glad to see at least some places pushing back. Otherwise I don't think it would be safe for me to return to the UK to visit family
I personally like to share this image with bigoted rightwingers who never seem to know what pronouns even are. This image is used for grade school students; it makes it even funnier.
Many people don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom. That doesn't mean that bathrooms should be divided. It means that people need better hygiene
I'd be careful with that phrasing. We need to keep in mine they're talking about the accessible bathroom here.
I know you didn't mean it this way, but it's inadvertently implying anyone who needs to use the accessible bathroom is doing a "walk of shame" - plus not all disabilities are visible.
Accessible bathrooms are already for everyone. That's the point of them - everyone can access them. They aren't only for disability, they are so people for whom narrow stall/rooms are impossible can ALSO access them.
Can't wait to see this proliferate and the same knuckle-draggers who just got what they wanted become inconsolable over the concept of neutral bathrooms
When I went to the clubs in the 90s most of them had
"Unisex" bathrooms. It was a third option. I don't see them anymore and have not for a long time. Why can't everyone just have a third option?
Because lots of office buildings, businesses, restaurants etc don't have the space to fit in a 3rd toilet, nor the funds to finance it.
But mainly bc trans people don't want to use 3rd spaces, they want to use the same loos as the rest of us. Why should they have to 'out' themselves as trans?
Lol, this is exactly what I've seen TERFs worrying about online 'But what if they just make everything gender neutral now'. Well, you asked for this basically.
By then they'll have latched onto some other excuse, or some other marginalized group. Fearful, angry people need a scapegoat at all times, and they're actually not as choosy as their intensity suggests.
I lived in a commune in the 70s, and we had a two-seater outhouse. We just accepted it, because it was what we could afford. Most people weren’t really uncomfortable using it, unless they got stuck with Spiritual Dave or Bonnie.
I live in a town,in Ark..a County seat that voted 80% GOP for the last 20+years,..that just replaced all the restrooms in the 4 local parks last summer,..with ALL gender/able neutral facilities..because our County Judge isn't some perverted idiot.
We went thru High School together, a long time ago.
My only wish for public bathrooms is that stalls had dividers that touched the floor. We all make nasty smells and noises in there. I just don't want to see your shoes and drawers around your legs while I do my business.
I’m going to consider it similar to UK not allowing sockets in bathrooms while other countries do without issue - things that exist because “We’re special and need to be different.” 😆
Weird how it’s invariably a conservative getting caught tapping their foot or whatever, they created this invasive setup and it’s nailing them most of all 😹
Doing away with gender? Perhaps. But do they know two left shoes don't, won’t make a pair? Though I understand the impulse; biology I found, is such a BITCH! I was born in Africa to south Asian parents who migrated there but as a child, I wanted to grow up & be Chinese! But! Never worked out ...
Our local theatre opened a new studio about a month ago, with entirely private unisex toilets. There’s been nothing more than a few slightly raised eyebrows. It all works fine.
Christians are always trying to restrict the rights of others.
When they came into power in Rome the first thing they did is pass laws making it illegal for Jews to testify against them in court.
They are always racist and bigots. They are NOT good people.
19yr old & I talked abt Supreme Ct ruling. We both agree we have undoubtedly been in public bathrooms with trans women and haven’t even noticed. No big deal. 19yr old said she’d have concerns abt some sicko following young girls into the bathroom and pretending to be a trans man when challenged
Harassing other people in a bathroom is just as illegal as harassing people in any other location. And in every case I've heard of recently involving a threatening male figure intruding on the ladies' loo, it was a *transphobe* yelling at a woman for being too tall/strong/plain/flat shoes/pockets.
That's the point. The concern isn't trans women, or trans men. It's a cis man taking advantage of a law saying use the b/room of your biological sex by pretending to be trans when challenged. When 19yr old was little, I always went to public loos with her & I wasn't worried abt trans ppl
And if you're a TERF and have a "real" problem with this, we will escort you to the back door and throw you toward the dumpster so you can piss with your own particular kind of vermin...

I’m glad to see others are using their privileges to help. Me and my gf have been talking about how we can help too, even with our limitations.

That's grim.
I'm disabled and I don't want transphobes in my spaces.
Lead on, Britain! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇺🇸👍

WTF has to be different about them anyway?? One reason I never understood gender-bigots.
We have gender-segregated bathrooms for the exact same reason Saudi Arabia has gender-segregated restaurants.

PART T - TOILET ACCOMMODATION
Scroll all the way to the end, that’s the regulation.
Not a lawyer, someone would have to bother enforcing it though.
Pub solidarity is always appreciated regardless. The Court made a wholly unworkable judgement.
The only way out of this is if the Labour Together / Blue Labour are ejected from the party and with their level of control and ruthlessness that seems unlikely.
The only time when a complaint was made was when someone did a 💩 on the floor
And pets when they get old, but that's different.
No, there’s no justification for that
I don’t care what happens in private bathrooms, but everyone needs to be considerate in a public shared bathroom
;)

That is awesome! Any thoughts how widespread that choice will be?

The space is better used for more stalls.

Works just fine.
If you want to speculate the problems that don't happen, consider this...
Is there a male/female icon on the bathroom door in your house?🤔
Always asked at the bar for the key to the disables/single cell neutral toilet.
WC*
* Water closet
Aka: bathroom toilet
America still living in the Puritan age.
It's a toilet. People just need to get over it. Use it and move on.
When you have to go badly I'm sure most don't care.
We love to see it. ❤️

It was bizarre.
You would reach more people, when you add a good description into the Alt-text field.
That is pretty easy, especially, when your image just contain text.
This way, you support visually impaired people and everyone else, who rely on a good filled Alt-text.

Always odd going back and there being gaps in the doors / the room beneath the walls. Cannot remember the last time I saw this outside of the states.
TIL.

The only way to know you’re not some kind of perv is for us to watch you pee. For Jesus.

The ruling is stupid and won’t do anything to make women safer
