Banana Gravel Race

“By abandoning the target, the Scottish Government has undermined the credibility of traffic reduction as a serious, achievable objective — not just now, but in future policy as well.” Shameful decision. transform.scot/2025/04/24/c...

This is a result of deliberate vision, and bold leadership. Cities are a result of choices

I still have no idea how that 2kg bag of Scottish White Potatoes only rang up at 0.08p yesterday at Aldi. Not complaining. Just amazed.

Edinburgh Dawn Patrol served up a stunner today. Nice seeing the sun again too, missed it last couple weeks.

If government made it cheap to travel by helicopter, there'd be a lot more helicopter trips. The fact those trips are not happening today does not mean people are being deprived of their mobility

The gulls, crows, and jackdaws appeared to be feasting today on eggs that failed to make the cut for rolling downhill intact on Arthur’s Seat today. The sun was nice though. A thoroughly eggcellent day with the views. Cracking even.

Remember, Paris wasn’t “always this way.” Not that many years ago, Paris was choking in car traffic. And it wasn’t a safe place to ride a bike for transportation, so not many people tried. This is new. This is a result of deliberate vision, and bold leadership. Cities are a result of choices.

“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.” “Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath Some costs aren’t costs.

AH, EDINBURGH'S SPRING AND THE PROMISE OF BETTER DAYS TO COME.—Meanwhile, the reality of thermal underwear, thick shirt, gilet, woolly jumper, winter coat and sou'wester. #Edinburgh #hyperlocal #news #weather

Last spring it was thrips. I won. Today it’s spider mites. Sigh.

Unlikely provider of 🚲 statistics, "Cartridge Save", reckons #Edinburgh tops the UK for 🚲 commuting -> www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/community/ed... 👍 We know it's growing 🤔 but UK top?? 😉 anyway, great publicity for their cartridges !! @edi.bike @stephenjenkinson.bsky.social @edfoc.bsky.social

If my eyes could roll back any further into my head, I’d be able to see my shoulder blades.

A reminder that not all laws are just. Keep fighting.

Is traffic a bit quieter this week in #Edinburgh? It might be because around c25% of kids get driven to school (c65% in independent schools) - Easter holidays means streets are quieter. Having safer routes to school would help reduce congestion! Data 🧵

We should be rolling this out everywhere. What’s not to like?

New helmet day. Well excited.

First rainy Dawn Patrol this morning. Looks like I need to put my gear and attitude into “No such thing as bad weather” mode.

Ohio State deserves that broken trophy for showing up.

“Yes, you technically are allowed to drive where you like, but that doesn’t mean you have to” James May says driving a car doesn’t give you any “extra rights on the roads”, as he claims cycling in cities is “efficient and quick”, but driving is “very boring”

We welcome Edinburgh Council plans to test traffic restrictions on Lawnmarket. This is a very crowded location for walkers and wheelers in the summer. Please get along on Wednesday afternoon if you can.

We’ve been quiet here, but busy behind the scenes. We are entering our third month of water testing two sites on the Water of Leith basins with some citizen science looking at pH, NO2/NO3, phosphates, and E. Coli bacteria presence! More than a few days of oil spotted and reported to SEPA as well.

Anyone cozying up to Trump and his gang of gormless, hate-filled radicals cannot possibly represent any kind of goodness in the world. Yikes to the 10th degree. I almost cannot believe that this isn’t a satire editorial.

Can we as a society accept that this is no longer OK? Every other business must adapt to changes in regulations, infrastructure, or space needs or face obsolescence. I’m not saying it’s easy to change, but why must we accept this as being the norm?

#Carbloat & #Mobesity is real in #Edinburgh. Since 2008 cars have increased in width by 3% a year - 0.5cm each year. This #Motornormativity is just seen as acceptable - but is there a fight back starting? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

It’s nearly 6pm and I should start making tea. My brain says that the amount of sunshine out currently means it’s way too early to do so right now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
