There is also camaraderie solidarity, community. The rewards are not the big huge kudos. But they exist.

Indeed! But you find solidarity while, say, walking to work while boycotting busses for a full year, or stuffing envelopes and licking stamps for hours on end. I think some folks, in my experience, have bored of the quotidian work of actually sustaining the movement. Not glamorous.

💯 I think that’s the number one reason why we have to disrupt the Parks/MLK — it’s disempowering. Kids learn that only exceptional people make significant contributions when in really it’s the small, daily choices from ordinary people across space and time that build movements.

Absolutely. And that is a hard thing to sell/really illustrate to young people! (Or, I have found it so) (And even the traditional Parks/MLK narratives overlook the grinding, thankless, boring work they, and their families, did towards liberation.)
