I specialize in whipping out my push broom to clean up broken glass from folks tossing their beer bottles out their cars on my block.
Damn, it feels good to prevent my neighbors from having flat tires.
I hear you on that, but you don't necessarily have to make a long term commitment to find meaningful volunteer options. Many groups will accept volunteers on a drop in basis, or you can start out doing a small cleanup on your own.
Imho, I think some of the people who constantly go on about politics need to do this. Take all that posting time and make an effort to change the world instead of being a keyboard quarterback about it.
I have hopes for some of humanity (although it dwindles during each us election). But yeah, keeping sanity and working on padding the bank account for the next four years seems to be the current plan for myself.

It starts with each of us. For liveable cities and rural areas.
That's how far we've fallen. Entirely agree though. Go forth and organize. It all begins with local politics.
Personally I gave up on humanity and am just accumulating wealth.
