When I see all the poinsettia for sale I no longer think "aren't they pretty" I think what a huge industry it is now and seeing as they are tropical plants, and effectively disposable, what a massive and pointless carbon footprint they have.

Purchased on Dec 24th 2022, red leaved but looking like it wouldn’t make it to the 26th.
It decided instead to turn green and become a permanent houseplant. I love it so much.
It was only purchased because it was scraggy and discounted but it had bigger ambitions than just a festive season. You’re completely correct, it’s another consumption aspect of Christmas that’s got out of hand.
Yes! And it's weird to buy a living thing with the intention of neglecting it to death. Don't start me on those amyrillis that have had their base plate cut off to force them to put out one great flower spike before they die. And then there's the dead trees.
