Well my dumb take away is I had no idea the poverty levels were that low and also that min wage has been higher than it. So once again the gov will subsidize companies ability to not pay living wages. SAD

In Texas, there’s also a job code loophole. Let’s say I manage 40 hrs a week for X amount & serve or bartend for an additional 10 hrs @ $2.13/hr. 50 hrs of the 1st would require 1.5 for the additional 10. 50 serving requires min wage for the extra 10. Job codes differentials cancel out overtime.

What if they put "cap" on the earnings gap between top and bottom earners (e.g., 200x the lowest earner)? Or mega taxes get slapped on if a company goes over that. The wages avenue feels messy to me...hurting innovation of small/medium business and not solving the core problem.

That is exactly what it is. If I want to help my son get his company up and running, and work for $3 an hour to help minimize his cost, the government steps in and says "woah, hang on, you can't do that" it is none of their business.
