If it's hidden from normal folk then it isn't really a fit. Stranger Times is urban fantasy, really, where the occult nature of the, well, occult tends to be baked in.

Hah, fair point. I think Miéville and Vandermeer are often described as 'the new weird' but I'm not sure that jibes as a term for the genre you're talking about. I hesitate to mention him, but some of Brandon Sanderson's novels are in the ballpark - "Yumi & The Painter" for instance.
