I was once asked why so many translators are liberal, and when your job is literally to experience things from two disparate cultures and bridge that gap for mutual understanding, it is difficult to be right wing. Translation requires a deep empathy and knowing no culture is superior to another.

Empathy and compassion are part of an artist's (or any creative's) tool box. Our mode is to feel everything and boil it down, transferring it to our preferred medium for wider consumption. Without feeling deeply we're not doing it right. But it makes things incredibly intense at times!
