People overstate how important Steam Deck is, if you aren't a hardcore gamer there is a good chance you have no idea wtf it is, its not available in most countries in the world, even then you can only buy it directly from Steam and it's barely marketed. lol - ThreadSky

As someone who has no interest in owning one:
It's not important for what it is, but what it represents. This is genuine PC gaming on the go, with all the freedom that entails. Its existence proves the viability of the concept, and opens the door for other, better competitors to come along.

It won't cause a seismic shift in the market by itself. But the idea it represents, and the change that will come to the market over time because of it, will likely be immense. The field is just waiting for its Gameboy moment.

Agree on that, thats why the rumors of Microsoft and Sony working on handhelds does have some weight. If Nintendo is able to combat its 2 biggest weaknesses third party support and online network with Switch 2 then its going to be an uphill battle to beat the juggernaut though.

Nintendo's always been the king of handhelds, so I have no doubts it'll be one helluva fight if anyone wants to challenge them. I think that long-term the freedom of portable PCs will draw enough of an audience to viably compete though. Neither will conquer the other, but they'll coexist in a way.

I think it mostly just comes down to that those who have them - REALLY love them. Also obviously Microsoft and Sony's handheld chasing is focused at the switch, but I have no doubt that the pure buzz of the deck (and its retail price SHEESH) is enough to add some mileage to their speed.
