Thu is backed in a corner on this. If they continue to show up, it means they continue to say it's okay for city council to treat them with slurs and transphobic behavior. In being absent, they're doing the only thing they can to continue to keep the spotlight on the issue.

That’s something to consider.
But it’s also going to embolden some of the worst actors to amp up the harassment campaigns to drive off anyone they think shouldn’t serve in the City Council.
And there are a lot of non-transphobic voters who will see only the absence, not the reason behind it.
I also haven’t received even a fraction of the hate and abuse Councilor Nguyen has, so I understand their reasons for remaining off the Council floor.
I’m just not sure that it will be an effective protest tactic.
