My husband isn't a gamer and recently started telling my in laws how cheap it is for my yearly WoW subscription compared to what he thought it would be. It's cheaper than a week's worth of groceries for a whole year of WoW.
Where I live, even nowdays, gaming is looked at like something for kids so sometime I just have to roll my eyes and just walk away because otherwise I'll have to engage in pointless arguments with someone that will not understand anyway.
Why people have to judge what others do in their free time?
Oh yeah, video games have plenty of entertainment value provided. I could go to a bar or club, and spend up to 100 USD for a moderately entertaining night. Or I could buy a video game for 60 USD(for example, plenty of cheaper games) and get days or possibly weeks of entertainment from.
Definitely has benefits, I have played World of Warcraft since 2005 and its subscription price has never increased which I find amazing. However, the downside is I only enjoy WoW when new stories or things to discover are added, and I am forgetful and the subscription continues despite not playing.
as someone whose hobbies are food and gaming, gaming is absolutely the more affordable and safest hobby
like, the best sale i can expect from a meal before it starts to get suspicious is 50%
if i'm patient i can get a full 100% off games from some publishers, just by waiting for the anniversary
Same but I always felt like, as long as it wasn't a dire situation, buying things was a better use of money? Like if you needed to eat that's a different story.
My coworker discussed this exact topic with his aunt except it was a concert she went to instead of a meal, and i have sent him this in response to use in the future.
Yeah if she says this isn't a way to calculate enjoyment in the first place, she proves his point. Games are enjoyed as well and shouldn't be calculated with time.
There are several games where I’ve put in 250 hours or more of game time. For $50 (or less) per game, that’s $0.20/hour of enjoyment. I don’t believe there’s another hobby that has that same value!
And chances are the food you make will exceed in quality because you are appealing to your specific tastes. Sure, get yourself some takeout now and then because your meatsuit has a hyperspecific craving for something. But LEARN HOW TO COOK.

Like... The idea that games aren't value for money always BAFFLES me when compared to other hobbies and interests.
