Tomorrow @robmahoney.bsky.social (a stealth Buffy superfan) and I are going to briefly address the Buffy reboot/sequel/continuation news on the Prestige pod. What are your most burning questions?

a) SMG returns as older Buffy, all continuity respected.
b) A reboot of the show with SMG in the Watcher role, playing Buffy (or not idc).
c) SMG returns as Buffy but she's a vampire/slayer hybrid and the Big Bad.
I guess my most burning questions: “why” and do you have misgivings and how can it really be “Buffy” in anything more than them using the character names/lore? Does that make it “Buffy”
I think we're always going to get fresh takes on existing IP. We might as well ask 'why' the RSC are doing another version of Romeo and Juliet. Also $$$.
It needs the names/lore, and action and romance, and the funny...or it's not Buffy.
I'd be happy with a fresh start and legacy cameos I think.
I appreciate your point. For me - feel like it was a thing and it can’t be that thing again because of issues with the creator. If some of the original writers like Jane Espenson, Marti Noxon were involved I might feel more optimistic? Romeo & Juliet is existing text, a play. Different sitch?
I just want them to do something perverse like having the only link with the original cast being Riley. Er, I guess that wasn't a question. What are the chances of the only link with the original cast being Riley?
Of the legacy reboots we’ve seen in the streaming era, what show would be your worst case scenario example of how this could go? What’s a best case scenario?
If we can concede that peak Buffy (though not the only good Buffy) was the high-school-is-hell metaphor, what central theme or mission statement could make revisiting the story feel fresh and essential to you?
I haven’t watched Buffy. How necessary will it likely be for me to watch the entire original show to understand what’s going on if I decide to watch this one?
What's your level of optimism/pessimism concerning the reboot/sequel/continuation? Or perhaps, what things make you optimistic about it, and what things make you less so?

Not a problem for Juliet Landau for some reason!

For me, the must haves are Buffy, Anya, Giles, and surprisingly Dawn (justice for Dawn!)
I somewhat surprisingly don't need Willow, Xander, Angel, or Spike.
I don't need Wesley or Andrew, or even Willow and Tara.
How about Battlestar Galactica as a successful reboot?
If SMG has to carry a new cast, can they gel the way the Scoobies did?
