Small criticism (or not so small?): the common root of neoliberalism is never named. Neoliberalism is the OG of the Network State (see @quinnslobodian.com 's "Crack up capitalism", another must read), and the OG of the Heritage foundation Project 2025. Neoliberalism devoured the Democrats as well.

Hi Julia, thx for sharing this -- super-insightful. You got me wondering: given that these folks seem like very informed and savvy political operators, do you think that naming neoliberalism is deemed undesirable for some reason? And if so, why? Wouldn't resonate, not a focus, too far, or..?

Well ... Gil Duran is by his own admission a seasoned mainstream Democratic political operative. Given that the Democrats from Clinton onwards were neoliberal, cutting welfare, passing balanced budgets etc, it might be criticising too close to home?
