"network upgrades made possible in large part by European Union grants and inexpensive loans more than doubled the size of the Metrolink network from 24 miles to 57 miles, and more than tripled the number of trams on the system."

Pesky Europeans. Coming over here, giving us grants and loans to upgrade our transport infrastructure. If we leave the EU *surely* our own government will fund these projects in the very same way. The bus implied that, didn’t it…?
Pay attention Labour voters to what Mayor Burnham is doing. Imagine a Labour Government tackling big issues in the same way!
It’ll be interesting to see how Mayor Burnham and Co react to the forthcoming Freeport scam.
I worked in Oldham when the Council were lobbying for the Metrolink to be extended to the town and how much it cost and how difficult it was to get funding. I'm not the biggest fan of the Metrolink./
Whenever I travel along the much upgraded A465 Heads of the Valleys road in Wales I thank the EU for starting and funding this huge project. I can’t imagine it would ever have happened otherwise and it could be transformative for parts of Wales.
It was our money being returned to us but with strings attached.
The significant funds from the Cohesion Fund, which many Rejoiners may not be aware of, total 160 billion, the little old UK received nothing from it. Thats your EU for you, you can have the scraps little Englanders🍺
Yeah, damn that pesky EU making money available to improve infrastructure! Money that the UK govt would 100% have handed directly to these sort of projects with no strings attached. 🙄
When Remainers begin to realise that the European regions with the poorest democratic control over their ERDF funding were the English ones, they'll be a step closer to realising how to address Euroscepticism properly, enabling the UK to move back to the EU.
The same way they do it here in Romania! We have gotten EU funds all around the country to upgrade and build tram tracks, which made it possible for poorer cities to start using their trams again!! Yay EU!
In most EU countries, support for infrastructure initiatives is well advertised, often with the amount of and people see and are aware of the value of the EU support.
In contrast, UK recipients tended to hide this, using the minimum size signage acknowledging support, tucked away in a corner.
I think this shows one of the oft missed facts about Brexit. the EU were funding things that Westminster wouldn't to the benefit of parts of the country that would massively benefit from such projects. those who voted Leave didn't seem to know or didn't care about the people such funding benefitted
Although terms of EU funding require public acknowledgement through signage, recipients in the UK tended to use the minimum signage, often not prominently displayed.
People going abroad would see signs acknowledging EU support, and wonder why they didn't see similar here, and assume there was none
Brexit was an act of unprecedented self harm, foreign interference and sabotage. Time we made the government talk about it. Rejoin negotiations now, not in 10 years

You have just proved my point that none of you know much about what the EU does.
Cheers me dear, thanks for playing 👍🍺
