The UK might have voted for Brexit but they didn't vote on what form it would take - that was decided by the govt of the time. Starmer could rejoin the single market and - still being outside the EU - credibly claim to be honouring the vote.

The far-right he is pandering to are a tiny% of the electorate, so while he is keeping them onside he is alienating a far bigger number of natural Labour voters. Labour will be annihilated at the next election as their voters flock to the Greens and Libdems.

His problem is that in the manifesto he was vague about what he would do, but clear about what he wouldn't. He can't abandon Brexit without a complete U turn.

Labour will probably have to break their tax commitment - I can't see them breaking their Brexit commitment too.
