It's not a book event, but can I put in a shout-out for Blue Willow Books in Houston?

Every time I go there they recommend me some book that I NEVER would have picked out for myself but somehow becomes my new favorite book ever.

Hyun Sook will have a 3 month visa, so probably mid-August to mid-November. I'm debating if I want to fly out before her in June to attend ALA Annual. It's my favorite event, but it'd be on my own dime and I'm not sure what I'd do in July.

If only that Comic-Con centered around comics! (I asked my publisher about that last year when it was a possibility that I'd already be out there and they were like "even with the short trip, it's not worth it to market comics there.")

From an attendee's perspective, it's easy to focus on comics the whole time and get a lot out of it - I have literally never been inside Hall H - but I get that it's different for a creator. It's still a great place to connect with others in the biz, though.

If you’re going to be in New England at all in September, I co-run the Spooktastic Book Fair at my library in Framingham, MA with @alyssaalessi.bsky.social. Last year we had about 50 authors from spooky kids books-extreme horror, and got around 1500 attendees!

Occulted was amazing, and we’d love to showcase it as part of our YA section, and while Banned Book Club and No Rules Tonight aren’t horror per se, they’re certainly about a horrific time that seems to have more resonance than ever.
