Well honestly it’s hard to blame them. I’m certainly not any kind of expert but on the surface of it it’s hard to see what need they have that can’t be filled with gen 4.5 aircraft from a European source.

It’s a hard decision because it is still a sacrifice. Rafale is good but is still less capable and the order backlog means they might be waiting until the 2030s. Gripen has even more shortcomings, not just worse RCS but also much worse payload and crucially range.
