I agree wholeheartedly that it's our job as U.S. citizens to defend democracy. But while I'm hate defending Schumer, debating what to campaign on is different. If "defend democracy" isn't a winning message, they still have to do it (i.e., defend democracy) while campaigning on "Trump take egg."

The answer may be to come at defending democracy by defending balance of power. If POTUS can rock markets, flip alliances, fire droves of people, cancel contracts, arbitrarily impose tariffs and declare there is such thing as “illegal protest,” then we need to fight for our power.

I mean sure, but last year a Democratic VP campaigned her heart out on defending democracy, correctly pointing Trump out as a fascist who would end it. Society then elected Trump based on vibes.
