Hard to avoid the conclusion that concentration camp memorial sites increasingly serve as sites of penance and pilgrimage for bigots to use to proclaim themselves cleansed of their past sins, before they go right back to their bigotry. Which is actually a deeply Christian use of such sites.

This is a publicity stunt and we should not praise him for it. Vance will visit Dachau, proclaim himself inspired by the stories of the Jews murdered there, and return to the US to praise the AfD for "moving past" historical guilt and to continue spreading libels about Haitian migrants eating pets.
