Imagine spending a half million dollars to attend Police State University, where you’ll get to experience NYPD brutality up close and where they might just revoke your degree for wrongthink even after you’ve graduated.

In a first for the Ivy League school, Columbia's new officers have the same powers of warrantless search and arrest as any other police officer under New York law. The state law permits the officers to use "physical force and deadly physical force in making an arrest or preventing an escape."

Then 911 came.
Then they were heroes.
Now they are right back being the thugs they can be.
Those people should be fired.
A cop is deadly force.
Do you really think they would give them full arrest powers, including the use of deadly force, if they were not planning on arming them at the very first provocation?
Where do you think this leads?
Congratulations, @columbiauniversity.bsky.social
It's Columbia. This isn't exactly new for them.
I mean let's face it, only *some* of the student body is gonna get policed, just like with the NYPD
It won’t last. It will be forever stained by it’s lack of free thought, political suppression and despotic management. It will mentioned in the same breath as Phoenix U and Trump U before long.
This won't end well 😕

God, I'm old.
People who think "Yeah, that's the kind of place I want to go to school" are telling on themselves big time.
Didn’t go for a lot of reasons. Journalism being dead foremost among them.
But it seemed like a good school and I’m pretty sad with how it’s been slamming its own nose in the door lately 😞
Its one thing when the brutalized are marginalized, the sort who don't have a voice.
Its another when the brutalized are the petit bourgeoisie.
Bold strategy Cotton, let's see how it works out for them.
Because of the cops.
These institutions exist to cultivate entrenched conservative hierarchies.
They have never had credibility outside the silo.
