HBO waiting until they saw the culture had shifted to more overt transphobia to overtly stand behind JK Rowling AND doing it on Trans Day of Remembrance showcases how cruel and cowardly they are.

It's not cowardly it's opportunistic. They never cared, they just want to appeal to as many people as possible so they're gonna mirror whatever values the masses appear to hold
I honestly think every reviewer on YouTube should have a Disclaimer in front if any Warner Bros Discovery Content like @councilofgeeks.bsky.social does whenever they discuss anything Doctor Who related in recent years. Hell, anything HP-related across the board should carry a Disclaimer like that.
This is a weird thing to bring up to a stranger, but you might enjoy Dimension 20's MISFTITS AND MAGIC on https://Dropout.tv . It's a spoof of Harry Potter that has so much charm and heart.
People are always either vocally against bigotry or silently in support of it and this shows that more than anything. As soon as the status quo shifts a bit, and the people in power make it "acceptable" then all bets are off. I'm seeing this start to happen everywhere now.
These companies are not our friends there not in the business of saying anything deep or profound there in the business of making money it's capitalism at it's absolute worst why do you think the mcu has those who have a good point like the flag smashers be the villians.
They are doing a Harry Potter TV show.
The variety article yesterday: "HBO Says ‘Harry Potter' Series Will ‘Benefit' From J.K. Rowling's Involvement: She ‘Has the Right to Express Her Personal Views'"
So yeah. Expect dogwhistles and transphobia slipped in there.
I like to think of myself as pretty thick-skinned by now (not that that's an inherent virtue, just my survival tactic) but damn. Seeing the absolute shameless pivot from HBO now that they think they can get away with it felt REAL bad
Zaslav is a horrible person and every bad move HBO/DC/Warner has made lately is because of him. Also Hogwarts Legacy was a huge hit, of course they would support Rowling more.
It's just naked opportunism.
It reminds me of how staunchly opposed the democratic party was to gay marriage, right up until a poll came out that showed 57% national support. Then they were tripping over each other to announce their change of heart.
As frustrating as it is, people are most motivated by “what’s in it for me?” However knowing that we may be able to manipulate people provided we can find convincing enough selfish reasons for doing things.

Trump and co's may as well be "Friends of the Working Mouse" from the third American Tail movie. It fits.
If they could've separated JK Rowling from the franchise entirely, they would've done that too
And, I was thinking about re-subscribing to HBO, but I guess not now.
Try not to have a panic attack for a 3rd day in a row...
Just... breathe...
JK is so problematic.

Give it a decade and HBO will be disavowing JKR.
And it's the same channel that, not too long ago, funded the return of The Matrix.
