The stuff we sell holds trucks together, holds bridges up, holds granite to the sides of skyscrapers so had they purchased the RIGHT adhesives & used them properly those parts would NEVER come off. Well, you can't weld steel panels to the aluminum frame. They could use physical means like screws/rivets/clips, but they probably used glue because it is cheaper and easier to engineer. They probably used wrong glue or didn't properly test the longevity and environmental effects.

It's not just the bumpers: most of the metal panels are attached with *just* glue. Some are attached with glue plus a single spot-weld here or there or similar. I saw a video where someone's roof came off, but all the driver had done was accelerate quickly-- you know, one of its selling points

Actually, a lot of stuff is assembled with glue. It's a perfectly good design if the right glue and the right application techniques are used. What this says is that Tesla used inferior materials and/or had inferior workmanship. Smart money is on BOTH.

Here's a source of information, in a peer-reviewed academic journal. And this is from the year 2000; today it's more. In fact, the 787 airframe is almost entirely made of epoxy glued to graphite fibers.
