Priti Patel was / is the queen of the meaningless apology. Usually something along these lines: “I’m sorry if what I said has caused you to feel that way”. Inferring (a) that she’s not sorry in the slightest and (b) that the apologee is a thin-skinned whinger.

A similar version is when they say "sorry if this offends you". When they are not sorry at all but feel like they have to show contrition. The non apology apology is really annoying.

I finally binge-listened the rest of the series on Sunday. Might be a day late & a dollar short, but it also might not have come up, because no-one cares if the 'verified' BBC isn't clued up anymore, so it's 'heel vs *baby* face', not simply 'face'...
