How the media controls the narrative. No mention of the racism, sexism, antisemitism, anti Islamic, anti immigrant, anti LGBTQ+ which has increased and been allowed to continue unchallenged

And Elon wielding his "hammer of justice" if you dare to mention "foreign involvement" regarding the votes.
Seems like free speech and disinformation is for certain people only.
I left Twitter the instant Musk finalized the purchase, myself. I could see the writing on the walls. I haven't looked back. I am grateful to have found my way here and to find a platform nearly devoid of nazi vagrants. It's a breath of fresh air.
Or the blatant misinformation and inability to block stalkers.
This is why I refuse to subscribe or watch MSM at the moment. One friend can tell 100K of us instead.
We just let our actions talk. That type of media isn't even talking to us. That's just rich people trying to reassure each other that things will continue as "normal." Moving away from it, and X is the best thing we can do.
You seem to think this place is a haven of tolerance and good will. I've been here less than half an hour and basically every post I've seen that isn't cat-related is devoted to bitching at Trump voters.
Call it out, friend. If someone says something thatβs untrue or just mean, say so (but please back it with evidence and logic). Iβve disagreed with people and itβs turned out great.
If your version of tolerance is βno one minds what you did by electing Trumpβ then you WILL find tolerance lacking here.
But if your version of tolerance is βno one calls you a slur or threatens you with violence (especially sexual violence)β then yeah, itβs more tolerant here.
Appreciate this perspective. But allow the community to self correct - something that wasnβt allowed on Muskβs twitter. Emotions are still frayed and we are all experiencing some online PTSD. We are open to new ideas, but not so receptive to gloating from MAGA. Hopefully they meet us halfway.
I'm honestly puzzled by the frayed emotions and "PTSD." It was an election. I can understand you're displeased, but why such an intense reaction? I'm always disappointed when my side loses, but in a purple State, I'm always a bit surprised when my side does *not* lose.
We fucked up by dismissing the voices we didnβt agree with. We forced them to be βothersβ. Imma just pause for a moment, take a breath, and perhaps be open to the voices that share our ideas but disagreed on policy. Be curious not judgmental.βοΈ
If I ever meet one of those people I may reconsider. As far as I am concerned they're unicorns. Or, like Matt Gaetz just hanging around with unicorns looking for virgins.
There is a person you could meet tomorrow and start a dialogue as someone who simply felt left out and silently forgotten. Donβt be combative or dismissive. Thatβs my strategy. Dunno if it is right but imma try. π€
We are all learning from the mistakes of 2024. And perhaps the condemnation and inability to listen to the concerns from everyday Americans is a big part of that. Iβm here to listen, not lecture. We fucked up by being too rigid. Iβm hoping to welcome voices that want to speak.
Respectfully, that is just hogwash. Trump won because he speaks to peoples basest instincts. Mark my words come February, when it will still be Bidenβs economy they will all be saying everything is just great.
I just think we need to be inclusive vs exclusive. Iβm not going to endorse the worst impulses of fascism, but I wanna meet you if you think the economy or immigration is your flashpoint of engagement.
Of course it is, Trump is an incredible salesman. If something is yours it sucks. As soon as it becomes mine it is the most wonderful thing to have ever existed.
I'm interested in politics, but was not aware of the rather hardcore leftness of this site. And I really don't understand the intensity of the emotions.
Arenβt we lefties allowed to have anything? The extremists on the right have Fox, Newsmax, Twitter, truth social, etc. etc.. We deserve to have a place where we can share our views.
Ehh... I'm new to both X and BS, so I'm still learning how these things function. So far, I am totally unable to figure out what post of mine you are replying to. π¬
They always leave that stuff out, it'd be more surprising if they did put it in, Western Media is so state controlled yet they point their fingers at China
Iβve just been filling up with fuel and went to pay, and I saw a bloke picking up a copy of the daily mail ,
I had to stop myself saying , β thatβs really not good for you, it will only make you angryβ π±
Totally agree they willnot listen . I live in an area that has voted Reform, all cowards when you ask them to explain things but in a herd are full of bravado. Sadly we are becoming a split country rather than embrace cultures who want to live in peace and share their culture for goodness not hate
Not the last sentence, not irl, itβs American/online culture wars stuff. My experience in Ldn/SE anyway is ppl bob along just fine, w/ all sorts of different politics & opinions (Brexit, lockdown,post-Covid positions..) Less so in more liberal circles actually.
Iβm all for freedom of speech, itβs what keeps an equal balance between people, but ignorance and hate because of one or two people is not acceptable in my books. When you have one view and set on that path itβs impossible to change even with reasonably fair arguments x
Hear you,tho think few ppl actively advocate hate; more, everyoneβs world view is shaped through the prism of their experiences & takes different forms
I donβt mean extremes eg burning down migrant hostels etc(tho would argue still a need to listen to whatβs driving that, awa consequences for actions)
My direct experience of multi-culturalism is as a brilliant, positive force - but am not being undercut by ppl from other countries in only available jobs in my area, letβs say an area w/ already inadequate access to affordable housing too & limited integration between different cultures, for example
I light them. Anyone I see holding the Daily Fail gets their copy lit there and then. Only time they will receive ever illumination or warmth from the rag. It helps that I'm a nasty f*cker with no impulse control and I can 'have a row' with anyone.
We must consider who owns the media⦠I mean the Washington Post, all of a sudden, after what seemed like forever, decided they would not endorse political candidates.
And frankly, why do they use X in the title when and BlueSky is just mentioned as an X rival? It should say BlueSky social media platform has grown exponentially as people leave X cuz of the racism, sexism, antisemitism, anti Islamic, anti immigrant, anti LGBTQ+, anti-American, etc. stuff.
Now see if they did that it might drive more traffic here. They don't want people in positive communities. They want the all foaming at the mouth about whatever culture war issue they fabricate on their platforms. This platform threatens their bottom line
It's the manipulation. Only telling us what they want us to know. We've become all that we hate. I'm worried. As a mother with a Severely Disabled son. I've gotta say. I'm terrified.
The media has done a lot to propel trump. Iβve been losing faith in media for years but this made it plain as day. And itβs all about clicks and money with them.
Once Reagan (surprise!) killed the fairness doctrine, it was an inevitability that media would hunt engagement, and people engage more with things that upset them, so media just gives us what we want. Elon did that with X, feeding us posts that enraged us and rewarded 'engagement'. It's our fault.
I left Twitter in 2016. It was too toxic. So glad I never check on my account. Happy to be here since three months. Freedom of speech gets me CGV at TikTok seems itβs only for people that are alt conservative.
The corporate media is controlled by billionaires and corporations that want Trump to win so they can get tax cuts and because he contributes to their subscriber growth!
But they canβt just simply transition into a full-fledged Fox News-style operation. So they resort to sane-washing the GOP.
The platform shouldnβt be the one challenging things that you find offensive.
You should be able to articulate your point of view and challenge racism, sexism, antisemitism, anti Islamic, anti ILLEGAL immigrant, and anti LGBTQ content.
Donβt support censorship.
I think the term mainstream media is about to undergo a major overhaul. We can no longer stand by what the current media conglomerates have been feeding us. They are all complicit in the situation we are currently in.
I actually took a political science class where the teacher spent 2 entire classes going over ways to detect biasm in media and their effects on the zeitgeist in general.
Crazy eye opening having multiple articles covering the same thing, all with the same information, sound completely different.
For me the straw that broke the camel's back was about AI being able to scrape your tweets. I didn't sign up for that. But I haven't been active on the bad place for a couple of years - and noticed an improvement in my mental health after I stopped going there.
I've only been on bluesky for a few hours now and wow I can't wait for all of the people I know to get with it and jump ship. It's perfect. Seems to have non of that hate like X does. Sure it has less users so that may be why but for now it's great like this ππ½ππ½
Yup, these p*ssys in main steam news are worthless except maybe to let us know a tornado or hurricane is coming.. even then they lied about who's helping and whose making Sh*t worse. Now the deceitful, ASS k*ssing puppets of the media now must s*ck NAZI ASS, how's that taste SELLOUTS?
The level of journalistic obfuscation about the Climate Emergency is also one of the reasons for the degree of climate inaction that we see today
As well as allowing political 'leaders' to get away with inaction and misinformation
Still such a media focus on 'balance' against climate science
Idk what y'all are talking about. Aside from the ummm spicy accountant types I follow, the majority of what I see is violent anti Israel rhetoric from liberal kids. I was kinda shocked to not find Nazis and I was told I would.
Itβs an unfortunate reality of the Information Age that actual journalism is dead, and the news caters to the whims of the wealthy at the expense of everyone else.
I would hardly call Bluesky a βrivalβ of Xwitter. More of an alternative. Iβd say truth social is more of a rival, in the sense that they are the same thing competing for the sam eyeballs.

and then the last sentence is "bluesky has issues" π

I find the really overt tribalism off-putting - donβt go speaking for me, I have a mind, mouth & keyboard of my own, thanksπππ»
(+dull: as a Brit/European,American politics would not be the anchor to build my identity around)

She doesn't know that.
Disinformation is deliberately undermining democracies globally.

Of course the media controls the narrative. Now ask who controls the media.
