It might happen if you're moving to a new design but normally you'd move the existing data to the new design taking over from the old seemlessly. This would happen if you fuck that up.

Sounds like someone working for DOGE asked for production access, got it, and pushed content updates there directly without asking if there's a more correct process.

Alternately, they run their test site on occasional non-live copies of prod data, and it hasn't pulled the tainted content yet.

https://beta.cdc.gov first appears in the Internet Archive a year ago, for a month or so. Next there were a few appearances scattered from Dec 2024 through Feb.
