You just described my life…I abandoned my old life and moved to a coastal town with a history of pirates. Tourists love it meanwhile there is human/drug trafficking underground and here i am selling witchy potions at the market like “what have i done?”
I don't know if I count as a guy or a girl in this scenario, but yes. Then I spend my days writing novels in a spooky house by the sea always concealed by fog.
That looks like an apple II or an apple IIe. Which makes the mouse anachronistic. The apple II and IIe didn't have graphical user interfaces. That came later with the Macintosh.
Check out Bandon Oregon. Supposedly cursed by the Native Americans. Most of the town has burned and been rebuilt twice. Gorse (Ulex), an invasive species, grows everywhere. It is super prickly and highly flammable. They have a cult like church there that worships Trump. Horrible people live there!
Seriously. I had a male script editor once tell me he just couldn’t understand the appeal of my main character, a young woman, moving to a small town on her own. None of the women in my writers group saw any issue.
I have learned through bitter experience that male script editors - in fact, writing notes from men *generally* - are, almost without exception, an utter scourge.
They are alternately baffled, facile, asinine or just flat out stupid. It's practically an immutable law of the Universe.
I know someone working on a book with a similar premise( Edie's life gets burned down by existing in our society and returns to the coastal tourist trap with a shady and horrifying past) for anyone interested in the book @eliwoodsgheist.bsky.social
And that guy on the street corner, standing in the fog in a dark trench coat, under the sodium glow of a flickering street light? Yeah, that was me. Sorry if I startled you. I was just feeding the squirrels.
I hate tall buildings.. over compensating small men ruining our horizons… turning cities into rat traps for humans… I want to start with buffalo and give it back to them! Crazy I know 😫

Innsmouth, here I come.

Oooh! That would make me the goofy trickster supporting character! Achievement unlocked!
There’s a reason Stephen King is from here.
Or, I guess, hyper-fixate on the right parts.
Life is a first draft and history is revision.
