One of my favorite pieces of media in the last few years. Amazing from beginning to end and a great comment on race, power and misinformation. Timely watching.
As someone who was raised partly in Tulsa I was so happy to see them reveal some real history to the world. Black Wall Street wasn’t brought up much in schools or barely glossed over.
It was good to learn about as a non-American. Horrific, but should be known about - I like English people but their school curriculum seldom covers the various atrocities conducted here in Ireland and they're always shocked to learn why there might be anti UK sentiment here.
Bunch of people band together to stop white supremacists and big tech from ruining the world? Loving something and working at it even if you know your time is temporary and all things will end?
I recommend reading the original comic first if you haven’t yet – the HBO series picks up from those events, which end on a different note than the Snyder film. I like the movie a lot, but the ending is quite different from the comic’s.
Cancellation of Watchmen was one of those things that started waking me up
to the new media reality.
There is no room for art when slop is more profitable. Zaslov has been leading the charge on that at the company formerly known as HBO, and the rest of the industry has followed suit.
It wasn’t cancelled. HBO was interested in more but the creator wasn’t interested, “But don't look for a second season of the drama, which wrapped up its nine-episode run last month, largely because creator Damon Lindelof isn't interested in doing it.”
I'm really proud of him for that. How many great shows went to hell because studio execs demanded they shoot more shows than there was story? Lost and Dexter spring to mind
Yes, i've been watching Severance. It's on Apple TV+ and all the "media business pundits" are talking about how Apple TV+ is a failing/failed service bound to die because they are wasting their money on art projects and not the low quality, high volume slop all the smart media people are betting on.
It’s the masked police and this was made pre Covid…also I believe there is a scene where someone was trying to travel out of state and police wanted to know why…I need to rewatch that whole series
Absolutely brilliant series imho, the only screen adaptation to truly get the original. I'd LOVE the same team to do a proper lomg form TV series adaptation of the original comic.

I'm a fan already.
It’s a banger, do that rewatch!

The Black man in the movie? Real.
The Black NY cop? Real.

Both for going with my beloved Squid ending from the original graphic novel and for a chance to see Jeremy Irons fart for comedic effect.

Sorry, I wasn't clear.
