For me, the highlight of Pratchett’s work, all of which I’m reading for the third time now, comes together in the death of granny Weatherwax
“Shall we go now?”
“MADAM, WE’VE ALREADY GONE”
This was spectacular. Your father was the one person I've wholeheartedly wept over hearing of his passing despite having never met him.
My own medical issues often leave me in what I call "a living hellscape meat suit" but what I want on hand till I cease to exist are your father's books.
Thinking of you and your family. I was fortunate to meet your father at a book signing, and will never forget his dry wit, wonderful books and fierce dedication to the truth, justice and compassion. Thank you for reminding us of this lecture 💜
I literally just mentioned this program to my father last night. As well as the fact that I haven't had the fortitude to watch it yet. I wonder if I ever will.
Ah. You're right then. That, I did watch. I believe something from it might even be quoted in my MA thesis (which was about your dad's portrayal of Death).
Your father was one the little reasons, I had to survive. Because. Even in my darkest hours, all the thougths, the ideas, the tidy little knitbits. He told me: I am worthy. To live. And for that, I am forever grateful.
Still such a thoughtful essay. When I talked to my own dad about such things, having experienced a decade+ of his mother with Alzheimer's and if he were to exhibit the same, about the right to die and whatnot, his response was a less pithy "Give me a shotgun".
Thank you for sharing this Rhianna. It was extremely moving and made a lot of sense to me.
Your dad was an amazing man and I count myself very lucky that I managed to meet him several times, at book signings etc.
I had not seen this before, so thank you again.
Your father fought for humanity and dignity in so many things. He sowed the concepts of humanitarian morals and compassion into countless minds. It is part of a legacy we all share in. And that would never have existed without him.
He's proudly prominent in my living room, a full library of discworld in various forms, a dedicated trip to IKEA to find a suitable home for my collection
GNU Terry Pratchett 🖤
THAT’S MORTALS FOR YOU, Death continued. THEY’VE ONLY GOT A FEW YEARS IN THIS WORLD AND THEY SPEND THEM ALL IN MAKING THINGS COMPLICATED FOR THEMSELVES. FASCINATING.
I just about managed 'Choosing To Die' many years ago which was an absolutely beautiful but heart-breaking watch, and he was absolutely amazing in it and did the whole story with such grace. This is on my reading list when life is less....fraught. Thanks so much for sharing and reminding us.

Your father's Discworld books kept me sane-ish during my mother's final 2 year bout with cancer. I will be forever grateful to him and his legacy 💜
But I still haven't watched the other thing.
A harder reading for Tony for sure.
