Why do they obsessively thrust the imbecilic Hannah Barnes onto NS readers? Nobody cares what she comes out with. You can always tell with her that she’s pushing a narrative. Incredible how she’s on the wrong side of virtually every issue she writes about, from trans rights to assisted dying.
She exists in ‘progressive’ circles for the same reason as a James O Brien or a Sonia Sodha: to police the left and stop them threatening the neoliberal establishment. Pathetically transparent.
What they mean is "why can't the left mobilise in a way that allows us to feel less immoral than we do currently but doesn't actually threaten the status quo in any meaningful sense?"
The problem is that we compromised for decades, either supporting the less bad option, or accepting the false premise that we hadn't won the argument over the direction of the Lab party, perhaps in the belief that the 'centrists' would do likewise if we ever did win that argument
I’ve learned that more center leaning folks like the aesthetic of progressivism whilst not actually wanting to do things on a policy level. They’ll go to events for marginalised people but when it comes to the systemic stuff including legislation etc they’re not interested. It’s grim.
It's weird to see "the far left extremists" being called "the left" for a change.
Let me guess, they decide it's all trans people's fault somehow and the world needs enlightened centerists to bridge the gap to deal with the rise of the far right.
Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of people who've been marching for Palestine every couple of weeks that have been completely ignored by the hosts here.
Its always funny to see that clip of him and chomsky and realise that was 30 or 40 years ago, and he has clearly never once even considered what he was told in any of that time
Yep the left has been pushed out of the media because it made centralists uneasy and upset the right, the media have been an 'active' part of this process.
It took me an hour but I finally pinned down why this question sounds so weird to me: it's as if they're implying: the Right can "be mobilised", so why can't the Left?
"Why can't you just be mobilised easily like your siblings?"
