I have started a blocklist for Maple MAGA Propaganda. All you have to do is subscribe and choose the block option. When more accounts are added to the list, they will be automatically blocked.
Do what makes sense for yourselves, but know that block lists can be weaponised for censorship. If you are using block lists consider who controls the voices you hear and how much you know and trust them.
OK, but starter packs can also be used as influence and as ops. For example, a well-known journalist has a starter pack of Canadian journos and MANY are right-wing propagandists, despite the person being left of centre. That should be of concern to anyone capable of critical thought.
FWIW I'd expect a list of Canadian journalists to not filter based on placement on the political spectrum unless it explicitly said as much, and I'd still consider whether I'd take the account's word for it or not. To my way of thinking, this is how critical thought works.
They work differently. A block list is something you subscribe to (unless you only select individual accounts from the list), meaning changes to the list effect who subscribers see on an ongoing basis. Starter packs are not subscribed to and any changes made after your use it do not effect you.
I first heard the concern raised by @farhanasultana.com and the more I thought about it the more sense it made. My comment above was basically her advice restated.
Iβve considered this as well. I go through them and look at profiles myself and pick and choose. It makes it easier to have a list than blocking as I go.
Off topic, but I'm seriously wanting to pack up my daughters and leave America. I don't feel like they're safe here anymore. Is there a need for home childcare and preschool there? I'm trying to connect to people who live there.
I like that anti social behaviour is a choice when reporting them. If you go through the lists and look through their profiles youβll see lots of stuff that fits the bill.
Who are they to decide who and what they are censirung and why? I choose to read everything, weigh how factual it is, look for a different perspective and choose to speak up and counter for balance on both sides. Free speech I want to know who is sharing what in any place I am.
Are they? Or are we running a risk of swinging too far in one direction as MSNBC Blue, Fox News Red.
My media mentor @Ray Torgrud on CKY drilled this into my journalist brain. "Gather verifiable facts from both sides. Present without injecting personal bias. The goal: INFORM the public.
That would be valid if the RepubliCON other side didn't lie through their teeth and avoid facts, ALL THE TIME. If we analyzed Poilievre's posts & speeches in the House, I am confident we'd find a 90%+ lie rate.
The game has changed. Journalism needs to keep up.
Yes of course they are here. It's up to us to decide whether we want Bluesky to swing so far to the left that participants have to tilt heads to the left to read and participate? I don't tell anyone how or what to think. Please just THINK with an open mind.
Of course they are here. Thereβs nobody left to troll, harass and fight with on X except eachother. They must be missing the dopamine hit. Block and report as needed. Donβt let them distract us. Theyβre like flies.
One of the mistakes of the anti-MAGA movement was not monitoring carefully enough the independent and outside the mainstream media that made the difference in voting. Which right wing media should we follow to stay vigilant?
It might be worth our time to check before blocking anyone. Yes, it's fast and easy but we are all at risk of becoming named on some bogus list and ultimately blocked by our own network. Recovering from that would be shouting into the wind.
That is one way to assess it. How about our Canadians listening, seeing then DOING what is needed to squash their agenda with our votes, dialog, contacting our local representatives and oppose what we don't want from the grass root population up? DO something!

Very satisfying.
They still have it!
But now, I donβt have to tune into their rage bait. I regain my sanity.
And they can still squabble and fight, and call it whatever they want.
