I have oddly mixed feelings about this! Families need more spots to open up, and providers can't afford to pay child care workers a living wage! I agree it could go horribly wrong....is there any universe in which it works out ok for children??

I can't spin any future where endangering children and further stressing out caregivers to make up for a refusal to put in public money works out well for kids. It's one thing to have a convo about what ratios should be (1:6 or 1:7 for one-year-olds? That's fair!), but eliminating them is reckless.

One of the main reasons federal regulations require ratios and maximum group sizes is to lessen the extent to which middle class families can purchase safety that is not afforded to families who rely on subsidies, where meager rates get you programs where children are warehoused so parents can work.

I wish we lived in a world where we could experiment with different formats that would be kids safe while offering more financial viability & slots...but I'm 100% on board with you because we live in this crappy world where financial considerations always come at the cost of kids' wellbeing.
