Latest in the rumor mail from DOJ is one career public integrity. Lawyer agreed to sign the motion to dismiss in order to prevent the sacking of all of their colleagues. Absolutely brutal Stalinist stuff from the new administration.

I can't help but think that is the "story" that is being disseminated when in fact, the person who signed it is the coward and the fool that Hagan Scotten noted would come forward. This is smoke to protect the trump toady.
These are really talented lawyers who could probably make more in private practice. So I don't think he's a hero. The whole bunch should have walked out over this blatant corruption.
It only gets worse from here, folks. Once they get you to sacrifice your morals...
Leading in & out of the Trump-directed #StValentinesDayDOJmassacre (7 resignations, so far), 🇺🇸JUSTICE⚖️☠️ officially reached a Third World-style “Kangaroo🤡🏛️Court⚖️Killing☠️‼️”
Hagan Scotten, lead prosecutor on the NYC mayor Adams who just RESIGNED, delivered a BLISTERING letter to CRONY Deputy AG Bove👇‼️
Whenever the scurrilous, traitorous & hypocritical dogs of the GOP #Trumpublican cult (particularly reps Jim Jordan & James Comer-Pile💩) dares 2 re-invoke how Biden & the Dems “WEAPONIZED” the DoJ & FBI, point to da Trumpers’ #StValentinesDOJmassacre🏛️☠️🐘🤡👺‼️

Now they will test that person's limit, and when it breaks, fire them all anyway. You cannot give in to dictators like that. Unless the person signed it and then resigned, to save their colleagues?
So does that individual now have to go before the court and defend this? Can the judge ask the individual whether their signature on the request was coerced? And can the judge request the presence of the individual that coerced the individual to sign the document?
Too bad that someone signed. Would be a bigger story, get more attention if everyone was sacked - and now Adam's case has been dismissed on top of it. Bad precedent.
I’m thinking that as soon as spring rolls around and the snow melts we have to build a big sturdy wall. At first I thought damn another 4 years…. Now I’m thinking damn we should maybe start now 🇨🇦
Correct. Which is one reason why after law school I chose not to practice. I really hated all but a couple of my fellow law students. A bunch of duplicitous weasels
That lawyer should make a 'Mistake' and file the request 'with prejudice.' Then after the judge asks are they sure, say 'Yes.', then once it's granted, appologize to his or her boss and tender their resignation.
Thank you for covering this in such detail. Your commentary is important to broadcast as only one with your experience can offer. I fear the person who fell on their sword for the others has done more harm than good, but the choice was noble.
M. Gessen recently wrote:

First, the responsibility-for-others argument.… The great Russian sociologist Yuri Levada coined the term “collective hostage-taking” to describe the phenomenon when individuals cannot be free to act because of a constant, credible threat of collective punishment.
I am astonished that all these lawyers are being asked to do something that is patently wrong. How can the people requesting this get away without any problems?
Now that this one is done the next and the next and the next.
Then there will be the coercion to bring charges without cause or merit. There is no end to this
This framing is weird. If 21 of the 22 were fine with not signing, knowing the consequences, those 21 didn't need to be "saved" - they had accepted the consequences already.
Unless this lawyer expects to be called on it by the Judge and they will admit in court they signed it under duress, which is one way the narrative of one lawyer saving the rest makes sense.
This is the right thing to do. We need people on the inside leaking to people like you, gumming up the works, slowing things down, writing briefs they know a judge will reject... We don't gain anything by making it easier for the convicted felon to replace people with his fascist cronies.
I can think of a few strategic reasons. I'm not sure any of them are the case though. One, the signatory may go to court and tell the judge they were coerced into signing it and had no other option. This would almost certainly create some sort of hearing where the judge called Emil Bovine to court.
That seems plausible. The judge knows about the multiple resignations. The judge also knows the entire division was sequestered and threatened. It seems highly likely the judge is going to want to hear from Emil "Gestapo" Bove, various prosecutors, and Adams/his attorneys with bar licenses at stake.
Please remember most of these AUSAs are 30 somethings who have kids and a mortgage. Resigning means no unemployment. Sometimes it’s impossible to be a martyr.
They were right. It would have been more principled to hold the line. I think they will all end up leaving in the end. They sound like they took those positions for honorable reasons which they are going to be expected to dismiss.
The AUSA nearing retirement who stepped up deserves a medal for saving the young attorneys from months of unemployment. And Judge Ho knows exactly what happened - the motion to dismiss hearing should be fun! And it appears Bove filed an appearance.
And they work for less for a reason - public service actually means a lot to some attorneys. And no one can just quit and get a job at a law firm over the weekend. It takes months to get hired anywhere
they’re not doing public service anymore, and yes, sometimes doing the right thing involves a very moderate amount of public sacrifice, which is much easier for those with transferable six figure jobs
you know, like the seven attorneys before them that resigned
like I’m sorry if your position is “enabling fascism is okay if resisting in would be inconvenient” but this is just an argument for literally everyone with any power to roll over
I'm hoping true patriots will investigate the cases, throw out some red meat information that isn't prosecutable, then report no evidence to substantiate a charge. Be clever, covert and rebellious.
There's 2 issues with that. The first is that some of them literally need their jobs to survive, to keep their children fed and their mother's medical care going or whatever. But if they all resign, then no one would be there in public integrity. Just empty rooms. Both things were considered.
Sometimes sacrifices must be made to effectuate change, and sometimes things need to burn for people to really pay attention. If this is truly about democracy, then the fight lies in all of us. This capitulation will means there will be a next time, then a next time. I get what you're saying though.
I also wonder if and how much there are considerations the public won't even know about for months or years. That happened during the tensest moments surrounding Nixon's ultimate resignation and we didn't get the details for years.
I beg your pardon, Orbegonia Jones. I thought I was replying to MsLilith who said "Sometimes sacrifices must be made." I shall endeavor in future communications to avoid making such egregious errors.
I didn’t make a sacrifice of anyone. It was simply my opinion of how change is realized. Many people will have to decide if their actions uphold their oath or further the desires of the people asking them to break it. He made his decision on his own as I neither have nor want control over him.
Fair. Sorry I misconstrued your words. They ran close to the calls I have heard for others to throw themselves on the pyre, for the common good. Urging courage on others can easily bleed across the line.
These lawyers are the best of the best. They would have jobs on Wall St or wherever else by the close of business on Monday for multiples of their federal salaries.
No - they wouldn’t or couldn’t. Wall St not hiring in large numbers right now - nor big firms. The hiring process alone is months long. Can’t take care of kids without salary or med insurance. At least this way they have a few months to leave and take care of families.
When I talk about Wall St, I am talking about the big firms. I agree that it sucks to have no income or health insurance, but these folks will do fine. OTOH, Bove ought to be disbarred.
I find I cannot applaud this decision. If no one holds the line, ALL of us are exposed to these open threats which these autocrats and traitors to the Constitution will continue to use openly and frequently. Now it is imperative that Hochal fire Adams before he does Homan’s bidding.
He had a choice. He could have refused to sign the motion to dismiss.Instead, he chose to be the coward and the fool. Hope he has a very expensive lawyer because he's going to need one.
If he doesn't resign immediately, it feels more like he's just saving his own ass while trying to look like the hero. Sad thing is, they'll all probably be fired anyway.
God I PRAY that Kathy Hochul follows through and removes Adams from the Mayors office. Let’s see how fast those charges are reinstated. Then will truly know whether or not it was a quid pro quo!!
"I'm gonna just go along with this one illegal thing. I'm sure there won't be any others that I could have prevented by in fact actually having a spine"

Where’s Kathy Hochul? Having a mayor as compromised as Adams is a BAD look for NYC.
Nobody will see the supposed sacrifice, they will only see the stain.

Stalinist, indeed.
I pray this isn't true

Could you work your superhero American magic and please make sure this stops?
We are getting terribly worried and soooo not amused!!!!
But I will send it.
Really, it's a father's gift to help establish fascism. And have you seen the mortgage payment on a house in Woodley Park?!
