Me: I just don’t know why I am not profiting in art.

Friend: Oh, I love that painting!
Me: Aww, you can have it!
Looks like it’s a mystery.

You: Mates rates 👍
I’m just so happy someone likes it though!
my parents owned an art gallery in the 70s & were pals with guys like this before they were famous
Your generosity will
Make you rich elsewhere.
"Is that OK?"
'Head vein throbs'
Me: Hmm, no, I can't let go of this painting.
🤦♀️
If you put a good looking house on the market that's framed well for £20,000 most people will think there must be something up with it
Like naah you gonna let me get over Christmas then I'm BUYING them. Had to set up an entire negotiation with her over it
Sure. But I make art to make art. And the enjoyment of that for myself and others is irreplaceable.
There are worse character failings than generosity of spirit and wanting art to exist as something other than a commodity.
The only thing that made me eventually agree to take payment was being chewed out by artist friends; pissed off that I didn't value my work in the same way I insisted they value theirs.
😅
Mystery solved
Me: I really love and appreciate art, but I'm too poor to ever own any original art. (Prints are just posters.)
Great art is only owned by wealthy people, some of whom don't really appreciate it, but just buy for investments.
“this painting is not for sale”
🙄
Me: Please don’t read it.
don't.
Me: This is great! what do i owe you?
Artist: *undersells their effort*
Me: How long did this take you?
Artist: *says absurd amount of time*
me:*tips them so they made at least double min wage on my stuff*
I wish people wouldn't undercut artist so much
