Holy shit. Wow. That's actually really inspiring to silence that little voice that screams "GUILTY" for not churning out pics every day and go on and begin a piece that'll take a year instead.
I use an app called timetrack pro on mac. I'm not sure if they still make it but it tracks time spent working on individual documents. There is a good deal of work I've down outside of the photoshop time here not tracked.
It shocks me it's been a decade because those were my first inspirations as a digital artist xD...
With your current skills, how much time do you think it would take to replicate something like this
Could somewhat easily achieve this entire piece in a work day. Its a very simple workflow, design, and pose. This more recent one is a lot more complex in terms of design but uses a similar workflow. This one took 2 or 3 days maybe?
In an average day I put 4-6 hours into photoshop. On deadline crunch days I have put in up to 13 hours. Thats actual time spent manipulating tools, not just the time I'm "working". I do not like pushing that hard but sometimes its gotta be done 🫠
You know what, the glorious thing about BlueSky and the millions of artists flocking in this week is that it empowers me to FINALLY create and post my all-new artworks for 2024, 2025, and beyond... as well as me having great fun by connecting with such superbly amazing artists like you, too!!! 💖 🦋 💖
I have an app called timetrack pro on mac that keeps track of all the time I spend per document. Its only counting the time I actually do work on it. So there is quite of lot of time looking at the piece in frustration that is not counted.
And here I take maybe 45 minutes to make one piece of pottery. I don’t even know what I could work on that would take 93 hours. Serious dedication, I can appreciate that.
Oh my god the learning is the best part too. I want to research and understand the way every little element in the piece works. I spent a couple hours learning the way miniguns work for this so I could design a fantasy one thats plausible.
I also then bought a link of 10 inert minigun rounds. Which by the way is maybe the very best fidget toy possible. I havent touched my tungsten cube for a month!
Helllll yess. When you crack the code on understanding how a new thing works or is put together its like eating a whole ass plate of Thanksgiving leftovers. That shit is SATISFYING.
That’s mighty impressive, past 50hrs I’m starting to get lost and not sure if I’m making things better or just adding things for the sake of adding things. Looking forward to this upcoming masterpiece!
I have no idea honestly. The zelda piece took a million hours but thats because of the sheer quantity of items in it. This one is far more dynamic and more outside of my comfort zone. Its also fully original so everything had to be designed from scratch. So its taken a long time to really hone in.
It’s refreshing to see other professional artists talk about how long it takes them to actually complete pieces - ofc it’s different for everyone but it’s so hard not to feel “too slow” because of social media, y’know? Can’t wait to see it!
They're calling it the most challenging piece he's ever done. Every single aspect of the work intentionally made arbitrarily more difficult to prove he can do it. People are already saying it will crush him under his own ambition.
This actually makes me feel better. Not because you're having issues but because I relate. it always feels wrong not to have fun 100% of the time. It's nice to know a pro feels it too
93 hours... this explains the absurd amount of detail and anatomical precision you works tend to have... It's honestly overwhelming just as a viewer. I can't imagine what actually making your stuff is like.
To be clear the 93 hours includes the design work I did for everything involved and the value rough thumbnail in addition to the final drawing. Two characters, their weapons, their vehicle, a giant monster, and an environment had to all be scratch designed.
Wow. I get anxious after about an hour or two if a drawing isn't done. Is your patience and ability to work through problems natural to you or did that take time to develop? Any tricks to help with that patience? I'm pushing 40 and my patience is almost non existent and I know it hurts the art.
It didnt come naturally to me either. Its just that I learned over the years the art I really liked took a lot of time to make. So in order to make art I really liked and would continue to like for years, it was worth forcing my way through the dozens of hours it took to make it.
This is encouraging to see! I enjoy the process, but lately I've been hard on myself for how many hours I take on pieces, (especially a certain challenging sculpt, why can't I be super speedy?). It calms my nerves to see other artists say "naw, sometimes it's just going to be a journey!"

I'm curious, how many hours usually took those realistic pokemon pics? like the realistic Charizard by example.

Enjoy the painting stage! Can't wait to see it in like 6 months haha
EXCITED TO SEE WHAT YOU'VE BEEN WORKING ON
Its A LOT. But it's a blast when you love it and are learning along the way.
You use bullets as fidget toys ?
Original and outside of your comfort zone? Neaat can't wait to see it 👀
Thats bonkers. Cant wait to see whatever it is!
cant wait to see 👁️👁️
Do you use software to calculate hours? I use ManicTime but in too crude a way, and I have to pen down the time spent on various projects XD
